Athlon Sports released a list of its top 50 college football players heading into the 2020 season this fall, with UNC sophomore quarterback Sam Howell checking in at No. 10 on the list following one of the best seasons by a freshman quarterback in NCAA history.

Howell set an FBS freshman record with 38 touchdown passes–a mark that ranks third in ACC history regardless of age–while also throwing for 3,641 yards as he led UNC to a 7-6 record in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

With his top three receivers and top two running backs returning next season, expectations for Howell are sky high entering 2020–the second year of head coach Mack Brown’s second tenure in Chapel Hill.
