Add another All-American honor to the long list of accomplishments for UNC freshman Peter Fountain, who was named a First Team selection on Friday by Golfweek.

Fountain was recently named a PING/Golf Coaches’ Association First Team All-American, making this his second First Team selection.

The first freshman to win the ACC individual championship since 2006, Fountain is also the first Tar Heel to earn First Team All-American honors of any kind since 2008.

He led the ACC and set a new UNC single-season record with a 69.68 scoring average — earning him First Team All-ACC and ACC Freshman of the Year honors as well.

In nine starts this season, Fountain picked up a pair of tournament victories and two second-place finishes. He also led the Tar Heels to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championship, the program’s best finish at the event since 1993.

UNC fell in match play to No. 1 Arizona State at the NCAA Championship, with Fountain the only Tar Heel to win his individual match.

He and North Florida’s Nick Gabrelcik were the only two freshman in the country to earn First Team All-American honors.

Others included on the Golfweek First Team include: national champion Turk Pettit (Clemson), John Pak (Florida State), Noah Goodwin (SMU), Alex Fitzpatrick (Wake Forest), Pierceson Coody (Texas), Davis Thompson (Georgia), Ludvig Aberg (Texas Tech) and Eugenio Chacarra (Oklahoma State).
