Golfweek Magazine named UNC sophomore Ryan Burnett as a Second Team All-American on Tuesday, while junior Ryan Gerard earned a spot on the honorable mention roster following a fantastic campaign for the Tar Heels in 2019-20.
Burnett led UNC with a stroke average of 70.21 across eight events, picking up a win, two second-place finishes and a third place finish along the way. He becomes the first Tar Heel men’s golfer to earn at least Second Team All-American honors since Kevin O’Connell was a First Team selection back in 2008.
“He’s an incredible ball-striker and one of the best drivers of the golf ball I’ve seen,” UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto said, of Burnett. “Many athletes want to love pressure, but Ryan truly does. There have already been many moments in his young college career where he has thrived under difficult situations.”
