UNC’s Peter Fountain was named the ACC Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year on Monday, while he and teammates Austin Hitt and Austin Greaser were each named to the All-ACC team as well.

Fountain becomes the first Tar Heel to win ACC Freshman of the Year since Kevin O’Connell back in 2008, and just the second to ever do it.

He recently won the individual title at the ACC Championships while tying tournament records for fewest strokes in a single round (63) and for the tournament (200). Fountain’s stroke average of 69.33 is currently on pace to shatter the all-time UNC single-season record.

Hitt, meanwhile, earned his second All-ACC selection after posting a stroke average of 70.61 to this point in the year–a number good enough for second in UNC history. He also finished third at the ACC Championships.

Greaser earned his first All-ACC recognition with the third-best stroke average in school history at 70.71 and a fifth place finish at the ACC Championships.

This marks just the fourth time in program history–and first time since 2003–that three Tar Heels were named to the 15-player All-ACC team.

UNC recently earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Noblesville Regional, as the Tar Heels prepare to try and earn a chance to play for a national title.

“Coach (Matt) Clark and I are proud of Peter [Fountain], Austin Hitt and Austin Greaser,” head coach Andrew DiBitetto said. “Each has had their own path, but all of them work hard, do things the right way and are highly competitive people. All of them are self-motivators. This is a tremendous accomplish for each of them, as well as our program to have three players named to the All-ACC team.”
