A second half-surge sparked the No. 3 UNC men’s lacrosse team to victory on Friday night in Greenville, South Carolina, as the Tar Heels defeated the Furman Paladins by a score of 18-11.

Leading just 4-3 at halftime against a Furman squad possessing much less talent, the Tar Heels came out firing over the final 30 minutes–starting with three goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter by Tanner Cook.

The fourth quarter saw UNC score a whopping nine goals, matching the total it had racked up over the first three periods.

For the game, Chris Gray tallied five goals and four assists for a team-high nine points–while Cook led the team with six goals and also dished out an assist of his own.

Gray–an All-American who transferred from Boston University–has proven to be just what the Tar Heels have needed to start this season 6-0 after missing both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments in 2019.

This marks just the 11th time in program history and fifth under head coach Joe Breschi that UNC has began a season with six straight wins.
