Friday marked the beginning of college baseball season at Boshamer Stadium, as the No. 23 ranked Tar Heels cruised to a 15-3 blowout victory over Middle Tennessee State to begin the year on a high note.

Joey Lancellotti got the win on the mound with a strong showing across 5.1 innings, while also picking up a pair of hits and RBIs at the plate in a strong two-way performance.

In addition, the Tar Heels also received a pair of two-run doubles from freshman catcher Eric Grintz in his first collegiate game.

UNC totaled 10 hits in the game, and drew seven walks–taking full advantage when it got runners on base.

After Middle Tennessee State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Tar Heels responded with three runs in their half of the frame to take the lead for good.

In the third inning, UNC added two more runs before exploding for five in the fourth. Then, following three consecutive scoreless frames, the Tar Heels put together another five-run inning in the bottom of the eighth to add extra insurance.

Sophomores Danny Serretti and Aaron Sabato each scored three times for UNC.
