Playing on the road Tuesday afternoon, the UNC women’s basketball team suffered a 88-76 loss to the No. 23 Syracuse Orange — the team’s third loss in a row.

The Tar Heels (7-5, 2-5 ACC) held a 66-61 lead entering the fourth quarter, but Syracuse outscored UNC 27-9 in the final period to come out on top.

Senior center Janelle Bailey led the Tar Heels with a team-high 22 points, while Stephanie Watts (15 points) and Alyssa Ustby (13 points) also scored in double figures.

Both teams shot 44 percent from the floor, although Syracuse had a distinct advantage in the rebounding department–grabbing 51 total rebounds compared to only 37 for UNC.

It was also a revenge game for Syracuse (7-1, 4-1 ACC), which suffered its only loss of the season to the Tar Heels back on Dec. 17.

This game was originally supposed to take place on Dec. 31, but was postponed due to COVID-19 issues among the Syracuse program.
