A showdown between two of the nation’s top 15 wrestling programs on Saturday at Carmichael Arena saw the No. 11 Nebraska Cornhuskers come into Chapel Hill and defeat No. 12 UNC by a score of 22-15.

Despite starting the match ahead 6-0 after Nebraska (5-1) forfeited the match at 125 pounds, the Tar Heels (3-1) were unable to stay undefeated in dual matches this season.

Wins from A.C. Headlee (141 pounds) and Austin O’Connor (149 pounds) put UNC ahead 13-3 early on, with O’Connor earning a four-point major decision.

From there, however, Nebraska won five of the final six matches.

Chip Ness gave the Tar Heels the win at 184 pounds–tying the team score at 16-16–but it would not be enough to help his team pick up a signature victory early in the season.

A team penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct docked UNC a point, while the Cornhuskers took the bouts at 197 pounds and heavyweight to seal the deal.
