Facing off against a top-25 opponent on the road Saturday, the top-ranked UNC field hockey team took care of business with a 3-1 victory over the Syracuse Orange.
Catherine Hayden and Erin Matson’s first half goals gave the Tar Heels (11-0, 4-0 ACC) a 2-0 lead at the break, while Marissa Creatore added the third–and final–of the team’s goals early in the fourth quarter.
Down 3-0, Syracuse (8-4, 1-2 ACC) finally got on the board just two seconds after Creatore’s goal–scoring off of the restart.
The Tar Heels ended the game with seven shots. Syracuse had five.
