Senior Night for the 21st-ranked UNC men’s soccer was spoiled on Friday night at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, as the Tar Heels were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline against the Louisville Cardinals.
Louisville’s Haji Abdikadir found the back of the net in the 35th minute on a one-touch volley from just outside the 18-yard box to provide the game’s only scoring.
UNC (7-5-3, 3-4 ACC) managed to scrape together 10 shots in the match, but only two were on goal. Louisville (8-5-2, 3-3-1) had similar results in the shot department, totaling 11 and putting three on net.
Tar Heel senior Mauricio Pineda had a brilliant opportunity to tie the match in the final seconds, however Louisville goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch made an acrobatic save to put the final nail in UNC’s coffin.
