Following Sunday’s second round of the Fighting Irish Classic in South Bend, Indiana, the UNC men’s golf team sits in third place on the team leaderboard with a score of 18-under-par.

Each of the tournament’s first two rounds were played on Sunday, with the first coming in the morning and the second played in the afternoon.

The Tar Heels are three shots in front of fourth-place Iowa State entering the final round, while Illinois (-30) and Georgia Southern (-25) have begun to distance themselves from the rest of the field.

Austin Hitt and Ryan Burnett are each 7-under-par for UNC, which ties them for sixth place on the overall individual leaderboard.

After shooting a first-round 65 (-6), Tar Heel freshman Ryan Gerard shot a 73 in the second round to fall back to 4-under-par.

The third, and final, round of the event is scheduled to be played on Monday.
