The UNC baseball team hosted the College of Charleston Cougars for a 16-inning doubleheader on Sunday at Boshamer Stadium, winning both games–one of which was a full nine innings, while the other only went seven.

In the first action of the day, the Tar Heels won 6-5 in thrilling fashion following a walk-off solo home run by freshman Dylan Harris.

Junior leaders Michael Busch and Ashton McGee each reached base in four of their five plate appearances in the opener, while catcher Caleb Roberts added a home run of his own.

The second of the two games–the seven-inning affair–saw UNC lay the hammer down with a 10-1 victory.

The Tar Heels scored four times in the first inning and finished with 16 hits in the shortened game–which allowed head coach Mike Fox to use a number of new players. Perhaps the most notable newcomer from the game was freshman Tom Caufield, who ended up with a solo home run and three RBIs.

UNC will return to action this weekend when it hosts its annual “Fall World Series” intrasquad scrimmage event.
