Owen Hull is off the board in the MLB Draft.
The Red Sox selected the UNC outfielder in the second round of the draft Saturday in Philadelphia. Hull was the 67th overall pick, and is the second Diamond Heel to be drafted this year following Jake Schaffner’s selection at No. 20 overall by the same team.
The 2026 season was Hull’s first with Carolina after spending his first two collegiate seasons at George Mason. After recording just two hits in his first eight games, Hull caught fire for the rest of the season, emerging as UNC’s top overall hitter and helping to lead the Diamond Heels to another outstanding campaign. His batting average rose from .091 on Feb. 22 to as high as .398 in mid-June, and he finished the year leading the team in average (.393), hits (103), doubles (27), runs batted in (87), total bases (161), slugging percentage (.615), on-base percentage (.500) and tied for the team lead in walks (48). Hull was named first team All-ACC and a D1Baseball first team All-American.
Hull provided UNC with a season-defining moment on its way to the Men’s College World Series in Omaha. In Game 3 of the NCAA Super Regionals against USC at Boshamer Stadium, Hull helped cap a thrilling comeback by hitting a walk-off double to give UNC a 4-3 win.
Hull carried that momentum into Omaha, recording at least one hit in all six of UNC’s games at the College World Series and hitting a pair of home runs. He also either scored a run or drove in a run in all six games. Hull’s best Omaha performance saw him finish 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two runs batted in, two doubles, a triple and a stolen base in UNC’s 12-7 win against West Virginia which sent the Diamond Heels to the national championship series. He was one of four Carolina players named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team.
The 2026 MLB Draft runs through Saturday in Philadelphia.
