The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Monday that UNC sophomore Makenna Jones has been named the organization’s Carolina Region Player to Watch for the 2017-18 season.

Jones has put together an astonishing 34-4 record in singles competition this season, while posting a perfect 12-0 record on Court One during many of the season’s most important matches.

This season saw Jones finish the year on a 17-match win streak, while becoming just the second player in program history to post a perfect 14-0 record against ACC competition.

The native of Greenville, South Carolina also becomes just the fifth Tar Heel to win this award–joining Jenna Long (2006), Katrina Tsang (2007), Hayley Carter (2014) and Jessie Aney (2017).

Jones is the No. 2 overall seed for the upcoming NCAA Women’s Singles Tournament, and is a strong candidate to win the ITA’s National Player to Watch Award–an honor that will be handed out on Wednesday.
