Despite allowing just two hits on Tuesday night, the 16th-ranked UNC baseball team was upset by the Liberty Flames 2-0 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Flames (15-5), who are coached by longtime UNC assistant Scott Jackson, won the game thanks to a dominant effort from their pitching staff and a two-run home run by catcher Jonathan Embry in the bottom of the fifth inning.
UNC managed to manufacture just seven hits of its own, and had its best chance to score in the third inning. During that frame, the Tar Heels loaded the bases with no outs–but were unable to turn that situation into any runs.
This game tied for the least hits the Tar Heels have given up this season, but lost after getting shut out for the first time in 2019.
