In a battle between two longtime UNC assistant coaches on Tuesday night in Lynchburg, head coach Scott Jackson’s Liberty Flames again got the best of Scott Forbes’ Tar Heels–winning this time by a score of 8-4.

This marks the second time the Flames (11-5) have gotten the best of the 14th-ranked Tar Heels (10-5) in the last week, accomplishing the feat in Chapel Hill back on March 9.

UNC pitchers walked 10 batters and hit another on Tuesday night, which proved to be too much for the Tar Heel offense to overcome.

Liberty took a 4-0 lead through the first two innings, but UNC answered with three runs across the third and fourth frames–getting RBIs from Angel Zarate and Tyler Causey and a solo home run by Danny Serretti.

The Flames kept UNC from tying the game by scoring once in both the fifth and sixth innings, before the Tar Heels scored their final run of the night in the eighth inning on a pinch-hit single from Jake Holtzapple.

In the home half of the eighth, though, Liberty plated two more insurance runs to seal up the victory.
