The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its list of men’s All-Americans for the 2020 season on Tuesday, with four Tar Heels making the cut.

Senior William Blumberg led the way by being named an All-American in singles and doubles competition for the fourth year in a row–making him just the third player in NCAA history to become an eight-time All-American.

Blumberg’s doubles partner–sophomore Brian Cernoch–earned the honor in doubles play, as did the pairing of senior Simon Soendergaard and junior Mac Kiger.

“To have five All-Americas on one team is pretty incredible,” UNC head coach Sam Paul said. “That’s a testament to the talent and hard work those guys have put in along the way. It also demonstrates the great job our associate head coach, Tripp Phillips, has done working with those guys to develop their games in practice and behind the scenes.

“And if you think about it,” Paul continued, “Our season wasn’t over yet. There is even more this team could’ve accomplished under different circumstances and if the season had been completed.

At the time the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Tar Heels were 12-1 were ranked No. 2 in the nation.
