Following a standout performance in the Tar Heels’ 38-28 loss to Georgia Tech this past Saturday, UNC senior linebacker Cole Holcomb was named Monday as the ACC Linebacker of the Week.
The native of New Smyrna Beach, Florida recorded a career-high 22 tackles against the Yellow Jackets, while also recording three forced fumbles–two of which were recovered by the Tar Heels.
In addition, Holcomb became the first UNC player to rack up at least 20 tackles in a game since Durell Mapp did it back in 2007.
Although it’s been a difficult season for the Tar Heels as a team, Holcomb has been a steadying presence on the defensive side of the ball–both with his play and his outstanding leadership ability.
Holcomb and UNC will return to action this Saturday, when they make the short trip over to Durham to face the rival Duke Blue Devils.
