UNC head women’s basketball coach Courtney Banghart announced Tuesday that the program has hired Chris Leazier to be the Director of Scouting and Video Operations.

Leazier has numerous coaching stops in his career, with both men’s and women’s collegiate teams as well as in the NBA G-League. While at Dartmouth from 2003-07, he worked on the women’s basketball staff alongside Banghart.

In addition, Leazier has has worked on the technical side of the coaching and statistics field in sales and support roles with HUDL and Sportstec software.

“I was fortunate to work with Coach Banghart between 2003-2007 on the staff at Dartmouth College, and have been thoroughly impressed by the unprecedented success she achieved at Princeton, and the foundation she has built for future success at UNC,” Leazier said. “She has distinguished herself as one of the game’s premier coaches, and I’m excited to assist her, her staff, and the student-athletes to achieve their goals for the program.”

In her first season with the Tar Heels, Banghart finished with a 16-14 record. A hot streak in recruiting since her arrival, though, has created plenty of optimism inside the program.

“His role will be to ensure that our video and scouting systems are the best in the ACC ,” Banghart said, of Leazier. “Chris has been involved with the game of basketball at the highest levels, to include the NBA, WNBA, the NBAG League, and the collegiate game.

“He’s been a member of the Hudl and Sportscode team since 2016, which enables him to be plug in ready to help us best use our technology to progress the whole and our parts,” she continued. “While he already understands the systems we have in place, he’ll make us better and more efficient in all areas.”
