UNC sophomore pitcher Caden O’Brien was named a Preseason Third Team All-American on Monday by Collegiate Baseball, coming off a freshman campaign that saw him hold opposing hitters to a .185 batting average.

O’Brien finished the 2018 season with a perfect 7-0 record despite serving mainly out of the bullpen.

The left-hander from Maiden, North Carolina allowed just 30 hits in his 48 innings of work, while striking out 52 batters and maintaining an ERA of 2.62.

He is expected to play a key role for the Tar Heels again this year, as they look to make a second consecutive trip to the College World Series.
