After trailing 2-1 through five innings on Saturday at Boshamer Stadium, the fifth-ranked UNC baseball team rallied for seven runs in its last three innings at the plate on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Xavier Musketeers–a win that clinches the three-game series and moves the Tar Heels to 2-0 to start the season.

It also win extends UNC’s winning streak at home to 20 games, the longest current streak in the nation.

A home run from freshman Aaron Sabato in the bottom of the first represented the Tar Heels’ only scoring until the bats finally woke up in the sixth inning. Xavier took the lead in the fifth inning, before a Jackson Hesterlee’s two-run triple put UNC back on top in the following frame.

The Tar Heels tacked on two more runs in the seventh, which then set up Preseason All-American Michael Busch–who smacked a three-run homer in the eighth to cap off the game’s scoring.

Tyler Baum earned the win on the mound after allowing just two runs through six innings.
