The sixth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team defeated the No. 23 Ohio State Buckeyes 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill, earning legendary head coach Anson Dorrance his 1000th career victory.
Dorrance has won a total of 828 games as head coach of the Tar Heel women and another 172 when he also coached the men’s program from 1977-1988.
Freshman midfielder Brianna Pinto scored her first career goal towards the end of the first half to put UNC ahead on the scoreboard, while junior Bridgette Andrzejewski put the icing on the cake in the second half. Andrzejewski used her head to redirect a cross into the back of the net and give the Tar Heels all the insurance they would need.
A total of 21 players saw the field for UNC, as the team cruised to victory and earned their coach a special moment in front of the home fans.
