The Tar Heels come into the tournament with an 8-5-5 overall record. As an unseeded team, UNC will face High Point in the first round at Dorrance Field on Thursday night, with a kick-off time yet to be determined. The winner of that match will advance to face No. 5 overall seed Stanford in the second round on Sunday.
Carolina is 42-23-10 in NCAA Tournament matches, including a 9-4-1 mark in the first round. Last season, UNC defeated Loyola Maryland in the first round on penalty kicks before falling in the second round.
UNC is 3-0-1 in program history against High Point, but hasn’t faced the Panthers since the 2007 season. That match ended in a 4-0 Carolina win in Chapel Hill. The one draw occurred in 2006, when the teams tied 3-3 in Chapel Hill.
Carolina is one of eight ACC teams included in this year’s NCAA Tournament field. No. 3 Syracuse, No. 4 Virginia, No. 6 Clemson and No. 7 Duke all earned national seeds. For a full look at the bracket, click here.
