Anthony Harris became the second Tar Heel within 24 hours to enter his name into the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon.

Harris was in his third season at UNC. However, due to a knee injury suffered during the 2019-20 campaign, Harris was able to redshirt and classify as a sophomore for this season.

Harris played in 35 games at Carolina, including 14 this past season. He had not suited up for the Tar Heels since early January due to undisclosed reasons, but had still been practicing and traveling with the team during the NCAA Tournament. His best game as a Tar Heel came in a win against UCLA in December 2019, when Harris scored 14 points on 5-7 shooting.

On his Twitter, Anthony Harris shared a message to the Carolina program and its fans.

“I loved coaching ‘Ant’ for two years as an assistant coach and this year as head coach,” said Hubert Davis. “He’s exactly the type of player and person we want to be part of our program. I admire his toughness and perseverance to fight through a number of obstacles in his time here. I’m going to miss him. No matter where ‘Ant’ goes, he will always be a Tar Heel.”

Harris joined former UNC forward Dawson Garcia in the transfer portal, after Garcia announced his decision earlier in the day. Like Harris, Garcia hadn’t played with Carolina since January. Wednesday was truly a whirlwind day for the men’s basketball program, as star forward Armando Bacot announced his intention to return to school next season, kicking off a social media frenzy.
