UNC head coach Hubert Davis’ rotation took a big hit Friday, as the school announced redshirt sophomore guard Anthony Harris would be unavailable for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Harris had missed the previous games against Georgia Tech and Miami, though the school did not disclose a reason why.

“Anthony has worked hard to become a valuable contributor to our team,” Davis said in a statement. “We are disappointed for Anthony and our team, but he will continue to contribute and we know he will work hard so he can play for us again next season.”

Harris will still be permitted to practice with the team and take part in other activities, but will not play in any games. This season, Harris played in 14 games and averaged 2.6 points per game, though he was more renowned for his defensive ability. His absence comes as freshmen wings Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn have seen their playing time slowly grow during the course of the season, and as sophomore Puff Johnson returns from a nagging foot injury. Johnson played in both the Georgia Tech and Miami games, his first action in a full year.

Carolina will next take the court on Saturday when the Tar Heels visit Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.
