UNC junior forward Armando Bacot announced Wednesday he would be returning to Chapel Hill for his senior season. Bacot made the announcement through Twitter.

The big man was named first team All-ACC this past season, finished second in ACC Player of the Year voting and was named Academic All-ACC. He averaged a double-double of 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds per game over 39 games, the only player in the conference to do so. His 31 double-doubles this season tied the all-time Division I mark set by Navy’s David Robinson in 1986.

Bacot is just the third UNC player ever to pull down more than 1,000 rebounds in three seasons, and is 218 rebounds away from Tyler Hansbrough’s program record of 1,219.

“He feels he can still get better and improve on parts of his game to put himself in a position to have a long and successful NBA career,” head coach Hubert Davis said of Bacot. “And he feels this is the best place for him to do that. He loves his teammates, this university and his community, and we love him.”

Bacot is the only UNC starter with remaining eligibility to have announced his intentions for next season so far.
