Senior Rachel Jones of the UNC women’s soccer team is one of the leaders of a Tar Heels side pursuing a 23rd national championship in program history. In August, Jones was named to the preseason All-ACC team, but she’s still making time to achieve in the classroom as well.

Jones, who earned her bachelor’s degree from UNC in May and is now a student at the School of Law, was named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District Team Friday. CoSIDA recognizes the top student-athletes around the country for achievements both on the field and in the classroom.

This is the second consecutive year Jones has been honored by CoSIDA. As an All-District honoree, she will be placed on the All-American ballot. Winners will be announced in December. Jones was voted a third-team Academic All-American for the 2020-21 season in July.

Jones, who is in her last year of eligibility for the Tar Heels, has previously been named to the ACC’s All-Academic Team. She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council for both UNC and the ACC. This season, Jones has compiled two goals and five assists for the Tar Heels. She will compete with the team in its first-round NCAA Tournament matchup with South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
