A standout both on the pitch and in the classroom, Rachel Jones of the UNC women’s soccer team was named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American for the second straight season Friday.

Jones, who is currently enrolled in the UNC School of Law, earned a 3.95 grade point average as an undergraduate at Carolina while earning her degree in public policy.

Jones appeared on CoSIDA’s second team, after being named to the third team last season. She is one of 10 repeat Academic All-Americans in this class. To view the full class, click here.

Jones is heavily involved in extracurricular activities at UNC, having served as president of the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and a member of the same council for the entire Atlantic Coast Conference. She is also a member of the ACC All-Academic Team, one of only 18 student-athletes in UNC history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American and one of just six to be honored multiple times.

In her final year of eligibility for the Tar Heels, Jones appeared in all 18 matches for head coach Anson Dorrance.  She scored two goals for Carolina, and her five assists ranked second on the team.
