The Los Angeles Angels announced Wednesday that they have agreed to a one-year $11 million contract with former UNC right-hander Matt Harvey–who went on to become an All-Star with the New York Mets.

Harvey battled injury issues and criticisms of his off-field activities toward the end of his tenure in New York, which ended last May with a trade to the Cincinnati Reds.

In 24 starts for the Reds, he posted a 7-7 record with a 4.50 ERA while racking up 111 strikeouts compared to just 28 walks.

A first round pick coming out of UNC in 2010, Harvey reached the major leagues in 2012 and quickly became an All-Star in 2013–where he started the mid-summer classic in front of his home fans at Citi Field.

Following Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2014 campaign, Harvey helped lead the Mets to a World Series appearance in 2015.

From there, his numbers started to drop off and his relationship with the Mets soured.

Now, though, he’ll get a chance with the Angels to try and regain his old All-Star form.
