Marquise Williams

The new American Alliance of Football league (AAF) held its first ever “Protect or Pick” quarterback draft on Tuesday, which saw the San Antonio Commanders select former UNC signal-caller Marquise Williams in the Second Round.

Rosters for the eight-team league were constructed based on players’ proximity to where their team plays, except when it came to the quarterbacks–of which each team has four.

In this draft, teams were allowed to sacrifice a pick in order to “protect” a given quarterback on their roster. They also had the option to take quarterbacks from other rosters if those players were not protected.

Williams last played professionally in the CFL for the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the 2017-18 season. He ranks fifth in ACC history with 99 touchdowns responsible for while at UNC.
