Former UNC standout wide receiver Bug Howard reached a deal Monday to sign with the Carolina Panthers, following a successful tryout at the team’s rookie minicamp last weekend.

Howard, who graduated UNC following the 2016 season, began his pro career by signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent right out of college.

The Colts released Howard prior to the 2017 regular season, allowing him to sign with the Cleveland Browns–where he spent time on the practice squad.

Although he has yet to appear in an NFL regular season game, the 6-foot-5-inch Georgia native has shown local Panther fans what he’s capable of while he was in Chapel Hill. As a Tar Heel, Howard had career totals of 146 catches for 2,048 yards and 18 touchdowns.

“It’s a great feeling to come out here and feel at home and be comfortable,” Howard said following the Panthers’ last minicamp practice, according to the team’s official website. “If you’re somewhere across the country in California or Seattle, you’re like, ‘Where do I fit in?’ Here you already have kind of a fan base that watched North Carolina football. So it feels good here.”
