Athletes Unlimited’s new professional women’s lacrosse league may only be a few days old, but UNC alumnae are already making their mark.
Through the league’s first six games, 2021 Carolina graduate Kayla Wood is the league’s leading scorer. Under the league’s unique scoring system, Wood has amassed 812 points, 50 more than her closest competition. Goalkeeper Caylee Waters, who graduated in 2017, is currently No. 7 with 661 points.
Wood was part of the UNC team which finished 20-1 and advanced to the Final Four in 2021, while Waters shared goalie duties with Megan Ward on the 2016 squad that won the national championship.
Attacker Sammy Jo Tracy, midfielder Marie McCool, defender Caroline Wakefield and midfielder Emily Parros join their fellow alumnae in the league’s top 30 scorers.
Wood will be busy this coming week, as rosters in the league reset after every week, and the top 4 scorers in the league are named team captains for the weekly player draft.
The games are currently being played at Maureen Hendricks Field in Germantown, M.D., and will run until August 22nd.
