The UNC men’s golf team just keeps on winning in 2021.

Carolina’s Dougie Ergood shot a career-best 7-under-par 64 Tuesday afternoon to clinch a share of the Elon Phoenix Invitational title at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. It is the third individual title a UNC men’s golfer has won this season. Austin Greaser and Ryan Gerard previously won individual titles in September.

Ergood finished the tournament with a 10-under-par score, tying him for first place with golfers from Elon and Appalachian State. The title is the first of Ergood’s career. His previous best finish was tying for sixth place at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate tournament during the 2018-19 season.

Ergood’s final round score of 64 was a major improvement over the first two days of the tournament, when he shot 70 and 69.

Ergood is a senior from Mount Laurel, N.J. Since playing for Carolina, Ergood has won the team’s Ed Kenney Award for being the best teammate, with “consideration given to work ethic, attitude and putting the team first.”
