UPDATE: Power was restored for all of these listed outages by Sunday morning. 

Thousands of Chapel Hill and Durham residents are without power Saturday evening following a severe thunderstorm in the region.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Chatham, Durham and Wake Counties through 6:35 p.m. Saturday. As the storm passed over the area, several of neighborhoods experienced power outages.

According to Duke Energy, an estimated 9,000 customers had lost power in Orange and Durham Counties before 7 p.m. Saturday. In Chapel Hill, nearly 900 households along Homestead Road experienced an outage, as well as an estimated 1,000 customers between Weaver Dairy Road and Mt. Sinai Road. In Durham, around 5,300 residents in the Woodcroft, Rollingwood, Folkestone, Crooked Creek and surrounding neighborhoods lost power beginning 4:24 p.m. More than 1,300 households in the Woodland Acres and Farrington neighborhoods reported being without power beginning at 5:14 p.m.

Each of the outages has no cause reported on Duke Energy’s website as of 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The energy company reports different times for restoration of power in those neighborhoods affected by the outages. The estimated time of restoration for the Chapel Hill outages is around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. The Durham outages are projected to see repairs completed and power running again around 12:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Triangle region is forecasted more storms and rain as the weekend continues. Sunday’s forecast includes a chance for thunderstorms through the late morning and into Monday.
