UPDATE: As of 7:30 p.m., Duke Energy says power has been restored along Raleigh Road and in the surrounding areas of UNC campus.

Country Club Road on the UNC campus in Chapel Hill is closed due to a downed tree on a power line, according to the Chapel Hill Police.

The intersection of Country Club and Raleigh Road/South Road was reported as closed shortly before 2 p.m., with power out at four separate intersections around campus. The Chapel Hill Police Department advised motorists to treat any intersections with no power as four-way stops.

Duke Energy reported around 2 p.m. that close to 800 residences were without power in southern and southeastern areas of Chapel Hill and the UNC campus. Chapel Hill Police shared an update at 2:45 p.m. saying the intersections of Fordham Boulevard and Manning Drive, as well as Fordham and Old Mason Farm Road, are working thanks to mobile generators.

Authorities encouraged motorists and others on the roads to continue using caution around areas where crews are working to restore power.

Though Chapel Hill did experience storms Thursday night, police did not indicate that was the cause of the downed tree.

This is a developing story.
