Hundreds of Chapel Hill residents lost power Friday night as Duke Energy repairs a utility line damaged from a car crash.
Duke Energy reported more than 2,800 customers experienced outages shortly after 7 p.m., ranging from neighborhoods along Dobbins Drive to parts of East Franklin Street.

Traffic lights along East Franklin Street, as well as South Estes Drive, experienced outages as well. The Chapel Hill Police Department urged motorists to use caution while driving through intersections during the outage.
At 1:41 p.m. on Friday, the Chapel Hill Fire Department shared an alert to the community warning about a single-car crash that damaged utility lines. A spokesperson for the department told Chapelboro an outage would be possible during Duke Energy’s repairs to the power lines.
The Chapel Hill Police Department shared a message with the community shortly after 8:50 p.m. on Friday saying power had been fully restored to Duke Energy customers.
