While the Orange County region got some snow the weekend of Martin Luther Jr. Day, for many it was predominantly ice and sleet that stuck around.
But when people awoke on Saturday, fresh powder-like snow blanketed the community.
After being under a winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service since Thursday morning, Orange County ended up being on the edge of Winter Storm Jasper. The storm system delivered 1 to 2 inches of snow Friday night, some of the most significant snowfall reported in the region in three years.
Several residents, including Carrboro Mayor Damon Seils, shared their photos of the snow on social media Saturday morning:

Patrol Sgt. Scott Chestnut advises staying off roads if possible. He took a number of photos this morning, showing conditions on state-maintained roads in town also remain hazardous. Other local services and organizations also announced they are closed Saturday due to the snow. Chapel Hill Transit shared an update, saying it will not run buses on Saturday due to the road conditions, while the Carolina Dialysis Center in Carrboro announced it would be closed too.
SERVICE UPDATE: Chapel Hill Transit will suspend transit today and be closed. Many of our roadways are still covered in snow and not scheduled to be plowed until later this afternoon. This decision was made in the interest of the safety of our team members and customers.
