While the Orange County region got some snow the weekend of Martin Luther Jr. Day, for many it was predominantly ice and sleet that stuck around.

But when people awoke on Saturday, fresh powder-like snow blanketed the community.

After being under a winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service since Thursday morning, Orange County ended up being on the edge of Winter Storm Jasper. The storm system delivered 1 to 2 inches of snow Friday night, some of the most significant snowfall reported in the region in three years.

Several residents, including Carrboro Mayor Damon Seils, shared their photos of the snow on social media Saturday morning:

The town governments of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough all shared photos of the snowy landscapes too, encouraging people to stay off any icy roads.

On UNC campus, the university is under in Condition 1, which is reduced operations, until Sunday at 12 p.m. The facilities crew shared updates on efforts to clear walkways on Saturday.

Other local services and organizations also announced they are closed Saturday due to the snow. Chapel Hill Transit shared an update, saying it will not run buses on Saturday due to the road conditions, while the Carolina Dialysis Center in Carrboro announced it would be closed too.
