UPDATE: The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday morning Nicholas Woodrum had been located and is now safely back home safe.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office alerted the community of a missing teenager Wednesday morning, asking the public for help locating him.

A release from the office said Nicholas Robert Woodrum, 16, was last seen Tuesday morning when he left home to run an errand. When he did not return by the evening, according to the office, his family reported him missing. Sheriff’s deputies have since entered him into the National Crime Information Center’s missing person database.

An Eno River Academy student, Nicholas is described as 5-foot-8 with reddish-brown hair and weighing approximately 112 pounds. Authorities say he has freckles and blue eyes, and was believed to be wearing a bright blue sweatshirt, jeans and blue and white high top shoes.

Wednesday’s release also said the Durham Police Department helped the office in its search, using emergency technology to find Nicholas’ cell phone, which was found on Guess Road near a McDonald’s restaurant.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Kyle Borland is the lead investigator. Anyone with information on Nicholas’ whereabouts is encouraged to call him at 919-245-2915.
