After receiving a call about a missing woman and beginning a search, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office shared a tragic update on Sunday.

The office updated its Facebook post asking for the community’s help searching for 79-year-old Annette McBroom, saying searchers located her body late Sunday evening.

The original post by the sheriff’s office said it’s unknown how long McBroom had been missing, with her daughter last having contact with her on Thursday. According to a spokesperson, a search began after the sheriff’s office received a call around 10 p.m. McBroom’s body was later located about 300 yards from her home in a ravine.

Authorities said McBroom lived alone about a mile from the Hampton Pointe shopping center south of Hillsborough and suffered from dementia and diabetes.

A Silver Alert from the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons was pending before McBroom’s body was found, according to the Facebook post.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said while no foul play is indicated, an investigation is ongoing.
