A School Resource Officer from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office detained a student at Hillsborough’s Partnership Academy Tuesday after the student allegedly assaulted two staff members, per a release. The sheriff’s office says the SRO will now coordinate with the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention regarding legal consequences.

After the assault, the administration at Partnership Academy placed the campus on a brief lockdown, after which the school resumed a normal schedule. The sheriff’s office says there is no ongoing danger to students or staff. Though no further information is available, the sheriff’s office did confirm the alleged perpetrator is a minor.

“At times like these, we are reminded of how important it is that we share a strong commitment to student and staff safety with our partners at the Orange County Schools,” said Orange County Chief Deputy Tina Sykes.

Partnership Academy is located at 920 Corporate Drive, to the southeast of downtown Hillsborough. A public school in the Orange County Schools system, it provides “an alternative academic program for high school students in Orange County Schools who are not realizing their potential in the traditional high school setting.” Monday, Aug. 24 was the first day of the 2026-27 school year for Orange County Schools students.
