A Chapel Hill resident was killed after crashing a car into a tree early Monday morning, according to Durham Police.

Osiel Valencia Rosales, 33, was driving near the 6300 block of Farrington Road and Dunbrook Drive. Police said in a release that around 4:45 a.m., Rosales ran a 2005 Honda Accord off the left side of the road.

Police said the scene appeared to show Rosales running off the road on the right before over-correcting, running off the left side, and striking a pine tree. A preliminary investigation found alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash.

Norma Lorena Telles, 38, of Chapel Hill, was a passenger and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, the release said. Rosales was pronounced dead at the scene.
