UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police issued an alert at 3:39 p.m. saying James Lunsford was safely located.
The Chapel Hill Police Department is turning to the public for help in locating a missing teenager on Thursday.
A release from the department said they are searching for 16-year-old James Lunsford, who was recently reported missing. Lunsford, who is a Chapel Hill resident, was reportedly last seen on Monday in the 200 block of Knolls Street — part of Pine Knolls community south of downtown Carrboro. He is not believed to be in danger.
Chapel Hill Police described Lunsford as 5-foot-7 and weighing about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing “light-colored distressed jeans and a multi-colored jacket,” according to the alert.
Anyone with information on Lunsford’s whereabouts and wellbeing is encouraged by police to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department directly at 919-968-2760.
