***UPDATE*** Stratford Drive in Carrboro has reopened following repairs.

A portion of Stratford Drive in Carrboro has been closed after Google Fiber construction operations hit a gas line.

The Town of Carrboro announced via Twitter that Stratford Drive has been closed between Tramore Drive and Autumn Drive on Thursday morning. A gas line was hit while directional underground boring was taking place to place conduit under the ground for fiber optics. Officials say the facility was marked.

Google Fiber began construction in Carrboro earlier this month. Carrboro Police and Fire Departments, as well as Dominion Energy, are on the scene. According to Carrboro officials, Dominion Energy will have to dig down on both sides of Stratford Drive to contain and stop the leak

A contractor for Google Fiber also hit a water lateral to a house on Wednesday, but this only affected a single house.
