Carrboro Police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that closed a major roadway Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said in a release that two vehicles were involved in the collision at NC 54 and West Main Street at approximately 1:16 p.m. Tuesday. One individual was initially pinned in one of the vehicles and was extricated by Carrboro Fire-Rescue personnel.

That individual died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to law enforcement.

A second individual in that vehicle was transported to UNC Hospitals with “unspecified injuries.”

The individual driving the second vehicle was not injured in the crash.

Police did not release identities of anyone involved.

The accident and investigation forced both eastbound lanes of NC 54 to be closed, while westbound lanes were restricted for more than an hour.
