The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education recently named two new principals to the district.
At its June 18 regular board meeting, CHCCS leadership approved the hiring of principals for Culbreth Middle School and Phillips Middle School, both in Chapel Hill.
April Burko will be stepping into the role for Culbreth Middle after serving as an assistant principal for Cummings High School in the Alamance-Burlington School System. Burko began her career in education as a high school social studies teacher in Cleveland, Ohio, and then High Point. She holds degrees from Wilkes University, Cleveland State University and High Point University.
Edmon Jones will serve as the principal for Phillips Middle. He has been an administrator for the Wake County Public School System since 2011, according to CHCCS. Jones most recently served as an assistant principal for West Cary Middle School in Cary after previously being an an assistant principal for Brier Creek Elementary School in Raleigh. Jones also has background teaching middle and elementary school in the Raleigh and Benson regions. Jones holds both a microbiology degree and an educational leadership degree from North Carolina State University.
The CHCCS board also took action to approve a new hiring at its June 25 meeting. Evan Nelson, who is currently with the Pitt County school system, was named the new assistant principal for Seawell Elementary School.
Burko and Jones started their new positions on Wednesday. They join interim superintendent Dr. Jim Causby as officially part of the CHCCS school system.
