The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education has named Tiffany Newsome as the newest principal of Rashkis Elementary School.
The decision was announced during Thursday’s board meeting. Newsome is no stranger to the CHCCS community, having served within the district at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She has served as the Assistant Principal at McDougle Elementary since 2017 and previously had an administrative internship at Smith Middle.
Before working in administration, Newsome also taught at Chapel Hill High, as well as other schools in Wake County.
“We are very pleased to announce Tiffany as Principal of Rashkis Elementary,” said CHCCS Interim Superintendent Jim Causby. “She brings an ideal combination of energy and initiative that inspires those around her. I am excited to work with her in this capacity.”
Newsome joins two other news principals for the CHCCS community this academic year. April Burko and Edmon Jones were chosen to be the principals for Culbreth Middle and Phillips Middle, respectively, in July.
Newsome earned her Bachelor of Arts at Wake Forest University and her Master of School Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently working on her Educational Doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. CHCCS’ release said Newsome will begin her new assignment on September 1.
