Chapel Hill Transit will restart its CW route again on Monday, adding another route to its reduced services.
A release from the transit system on Friday said it received many requests from the community to restore the route over the last few months. Chapel Hill Transit has been working under reduced operations in an effort to protect employees and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. While the CW was not originally one of them, it will now again run from 7:20 a.m. to 8:15 p.m on Mondays through Fridays.
“We began noticing more calls, emails and people looking for the CW route,” said Brian Litchfield, the director of Chapel Hill Transit. “As our team looked at transit access, we saw a number of people who needed access to downtown Carrboro, grocery stores and other important services – which prompted us to find the best solutions provide that access.”
The CW route joins the CM, D, G, J, NS, RU, S, and U routes as the only routes running under the reduced schedule. Friday’s release said Chapel Hill Transit still plans to implement its short-range transit plan in August, adding new weekend services and making routes more efficient.
“Even though COVID-19 may delay some of these improvements, we are excited to finally be implementing some of these changes, including providing Sunday service to our communities for the first time in 40 years,” Litchfield said in the release.
