The Town of Chapel Hill resumed normal operations for weekly yard waste and bulky item collections on Monday.

A release from the town on Friday alerted residents of the changes, which will be the first time such collections are available since mid-April when they were stopped due to COVID-19.

In its message, the town said Chapel Hill residents should expect for collections to take a couple of weeks to be completed, since the volume of yard waste built up from the break is expected to be larger than normal.

The town also shared ways residents can help protect the health of the employees while also making the collections efficient. Purchasing a yard waste cart or renting a yard waste dumpster from the town are options, as well as sanitizing the handles of carts and surfaces of bulky items.

Friday’s release reminded residents to additionally ensure all yard waste is cut to less than 4 feet in length, keep the total amount of yard waste under 3 cubic yards and not place yard waste in plastic bags.

The Town of Chapel Hill also said in its release collections will be canceled on Friday, July 3, due to it being a town holiday.

Residents are encouraged to visit the town’s website to order a yard waste cart or schedule a bulky item pick-up.
