The Town of Chapel Hill announced on Wednesday two of its trails will be closed for various maintenance.

Bolin Creek Trail will be periodically closed near East Franklin Street at night as repairs are done to the Franklin Street bridge that runs over the creek. Barricades and detour signage will be placed during the construction hours of 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on nights of repairs. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.

The town encouraged people accessing the trail at night to be alert for the signs and to exit the trail as they approach Franklin Street. Trail users will have to cross at the crosswalks and traffic lights for the best and safest path to return to Bolin Creek Trail.

In addition, the Tanyard Branch Trail will be closed Thursday, August 29, along the stretch from Umstead Park to Jay Street. Crews will be removing a dead tree from the trail.  The closure is expected to last from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
