Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Blackwood Farm Park opened in 2001 and incorrectly shared its old hours. It has since been updated.

Amid construction delays due to supply chain issues across Orange County and the nation, the reopening of Blackwood Farm Park in Hillsborough will be delayed until October. The park was closed as part of a $2.8 million renovation in August 2021, with August 2022 being the proposed reopening date. That date has since been pushed back.

The park is on 152 acres of land off of North Carolina Highway 86, with Orange County originally purchasing it in December 2001. Renovations to the rural park had been proposed as early as 2011, with a final master plan being approved in February 2021. According to the project’s master plan, enhancements such as a disc golf course, a learning center, an amphitheater and a new park entrance on Highway 86 will eventually be added to the park.

Once the enhancements are complete, the reopening date of the park is expected to be “in the weeks following,” according to the Orange County Government.

The park features four miles of hiking trails, a historic farmhouse, a picnic shelter and a barn. For more information on the park and its renovation project, click here.

The park renovation is not the only construction project to be delayed in the area. The rebuilding of a bridge on nearby New Hope Church Road, on the other side of Interstate 40, has also been delayed until October.
